About the Team

KPMG has one of the UK’s foremost Indirect Tax practices, delivering expert advice across the full range of indirect taxes, including VAT, Customs Duty, and Green Taxes.

Our national team supports an extensive portfolio of clients across a diverse set of sectors, including:

• Large multinational organisations

• Major retail brands

• Public sector bodies

• Financial Services institutions

With approximately 200 professionals across the UK, our Indirect Tax practice is fast-growing, highly collaborative, and deeply engaged in helping clients navigate complex tax challenges while identifying commercial opportunities.

The Opportunity

To support our growth ambitions in the North of England Indirect Tax team, we are looking for a commercially minded and highly motivated individual to join us at Director level.

This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to build on an already successful platform, contribute to the continued expansion of the practice, and play a central role in helping us achieve our strategic growth objectives.

You may already be operating at Director level and looking for a fresh challenge, or you may be a high-performing Senior Manager ready to take the next step in your career.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Director within the North Indirect Tax team, you will play a pivotal role in driving business growth, deepening client relationships, and delivering high-quality technical and commercial solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and strengthening relationships with senior stakeholders across existing and target clients

• Leading business development activity, identifying opportunities and converting them into commercial engagements

• Pitching for work with both new and existing clients in the UK and internationally

• Driving sales growth across the Indirect Tax practice

• Building a strong internal network across KPMG’s wider Tax, Legal, and Advisory teams

• Setting the benchmark for technical insight and client delivery, combining strong technical expertise with a deep understanding of client business issues

• Presenting confidently at senior levels, both internally and externally

• Inspiring, mentoring, and developing junior colleagues while collaborating effectively with peers

• Championing a positive, curious, and enthusiastic team culture

• Bringing energy and passion for indirect tax and outstanding client service

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an individual with strong technical VAT expertise, excellent commercial instincts, and the ability to build trusted relationships in a client-facing environment.

You are likely to bring:

• A strong track record in business development and client-facing work, with proven success in identifying opportunities and turning them into revenue-generating projects

• Experience gained in either a consulting environment or an in-house role

• Deep expertise in Indirect Tax, with a particular focus on VAT

• The ability to work collaboratively with tax specialists, lawyers, finance teams, and a wide range of stakeholders

• Strong technical and analytical skills, with the attention to detail needed to review complex issues while maintaining a broader strategic perspective

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt style and messaging to different audiences

• Strong project management capability, including managing your own priorities and leading the work of others effectively

• A naturally inclusive and collaborative approach

• A leadership style that is respectful, inspirational, and team-oriented

• High levels of drive, resilience, and enthusiasm
