About the Role

**Knowledge Lawyer

  • Private Wealth & Tax**
    Mishcon de Reya LLP

Join one of the UK’s most dynamic and internationally recognised law firms in a pivotal Knowledge Lawyer role within the Private Wealth & Tax (PWT) group. This is an outstanding opportunity to play a central part in shaping legal knowledge strategy, supporting market-leading client work, and driving innovation across a highly respected private client practice.

About the Team

The Private Wealth & Tax group advises a broad and sophisticated client base, including:

  • High-net-worth individuals

  • Families and family offices

  • Companies and institutions

  • Professional fiduciaries

  • Private trustees in the UK and major international financial centres

Many of the clients supported by the team have international lives, assets, and business interests spanning multiple jurisdictions and sectors. Some are non-UK resident, non-domiciled, or have never been resident in the UK, making their tax affairs especially complex.

Despite the range of issues involved, the core objective remains consistent: helping clients to preserve and protect wealth for future generations and philanthropic purposes, while balancing compliance, efficiency, privacy, reputation, and family values.

With a presence in London, Hong Kong, and Singapore, and lawyers qualified across multiple jurisdictions, the team is exceptionally well placed to advise on cross-border tax and structuring matters across Europe, the Middle East, the US, and Asia.

The Opportunity

This role sits within Mishcon’s highly regarded and innovative team of Knowledge Lawyers, led by Knowledge Partner Kate Higgins. Knowledge Lawyers at Mishcon are deeply embedded within legal teams and play a vital role in delivering excellent client service, enhancing legal quality, and supporting the firm’s commercial success.

The Knowledge team is made up of approximately 25 specialist “lawyer to the lawyer” professionals. Importantly, KLs benefit from the same career framework as fee-earners, including the opportunity to progress to partnership.

As the Knowledge Lawyer for Private Wealth & Tax, you will be instrumental in advancing the practice group’s expertise, knowledge infrastructure, training capability, and business development efforts in support of the wider Private Department and the firm’s offering to individuals, trustees, and family offices in the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will take a lead role in developing and delivering knowledge initiatives that strengthen both the practice and the firm’s client offering.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the knowledge strategy for the Private Wealth & Tax practice group, working closely with Knowledge Lawyers across the Private Department and wider firm

  • Designing and coordinating legal training, in partnership with the firm’s Academy, for both internal lawyers and clients, including digital and online learning solutions where appropriate

  • Drafting, updating, and maintaining key knowledge assets, such as:

  • precedents

  • know-how documents

  • client guides

  • automated document assembly resources
all in line with the firm’s house style

  • Monitoring legal and market developments and providing timely horizon-scanning updates for lawyers and clients

  • Using knowledge and legal technology to improve client service delivery, create efficiencies, and help unlock commercial opportunities

  • Producing high-quality thought leadership and communication content, including:

  • client alerts

  • legal updates

  • internal articles

  • external publications

  • contributions to legal, trade, and general press

  • Supporting strategic business development initiatives, helping identify and implement emerging opportunities alongside the Business Development team and fee-earners

  • Managing the department’s knowledge resources across the firm’s intranet and other know-how repositories

  • Embedding best practice and risk management processes, working closely with Risk & Compliance and partners across the department

  • Responding to technical legal and practice queries from fee-earners

  • Undertaking broader Knowledge Lawyer responsibilities as required

What We’re Looking For

This role would suit an experienced legal professional with deep expertise in private client and tax law, whether already working as a Knowledge Lawyer / PSL or transitioning from a fee-earning role with a strong track record in knowledge contribution.

Ideal profile:

  • Ideally 10+ years’ PQE

  • Currently a Knowledge Lawyer / PSL, or a fee-earner ready to move into a knowledge-focused role

  • Strong technical expertise in tax law, private client work, and related legal practice

  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for business development, innovation, and the commercial use of legal knowledge

  • Excellent writing and drafting ability

  • Strong organisational, prioritisation, and interpersonal skills

  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Confidence in embracing and promoting new ways of working

  • Interest in and aptitude for emerging legal technology

  • Resilient, adaptable, calm under pressure, and proactive in approach

  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Why Join Mishcon’s Knowledge Team?

Mishcon’s Knowledge Lawyers are not a back-office function — they are at the centre of legal delivery, quality, innovation, and strategic development. This role offers the chance to make a visible and meaningful contribution to a high-performing, international private wealth practice.

What makes this opportunity stand out:

  • A chance to join a well-established, forward-thinking KL team

  • Genuine strategic influence within a leading private wealth and tax practice

  • A role with strong visibility across the department, firm, and client base

  • Access to a career structure aligned with fee-earners, including partnership potential

  • Involvement in cutting-edge legal knowledge, training, technology, and business development initiatives
