About the Role

**Assistant Manager

  • Tax Accounting Group**

BDO

BDO is a leading accountancy and business advisory firm, helping entrepreneurial organisations respond to change, unlock opportunity, and grow with confidence in a fast-moving world.

We work with the businesses that power the UK economy — ambitious, high-growth, entrepreneurially-minded organisations — and support the owners and leadership teams driving their success.

About the Team

Our Tax team is dynamic, collaborative, and highly respected for the quality of its advice. Working across the UK and internationally, the team supports clients with specialist tax expertise while partnering closely with colleagues across BDO to deliver broader business solutions.

From evolving legislation to changing commercial priorities, the work is varied, fast-paced, and full of fresh challenges. Our clients place their trust in us because we invest time in understanding their businesses, building strong relationships, and delivering advice that makes a real difference.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join BDO’s Tax Accounting Group, a national team of specialists focused on tax accounting and tax audit work.

Led by an equity partner, this group offers an outstanding career path for ambitious professionals looking to build deep expertise in a technically complex and high-profile area.

In this role, you will gain exposure to some of our largest and most prominent audit engagements across a wide range of sectors and business types. You will also support complex tax reporting assignments for non-audit clients, making this an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience and accelerate your development.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Assistant Manager, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality tax accounting and tax audit work while building trusted relationships internally and externally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting major audit engagements across a variety of groups and sectors

  • Assisting with complex tax reporting for non-audit clients

  • Preparing tax consolidations

  • Contributing to the tax accounting elements of:

  • GAAP conversions

  • carve-out accounting

  • acquisition accounting

  • Managing a portfolio of audit clients

  • Building strong working relationships with primary audit teams

  • Coordinating deliverables and timelines to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule

  • Developing your project management capabilities

  • Supporting and training junior team members over time

  • Collaborating with senior specialists and technical experts on a broad range of tax and tax accounting matters

  • Identifying opportunities to enhance client delivery and provide additional value-added services

Client Exposure

You will work with a diverse and prestigious client base, including:

  • FTSE-listed groups

  • AIM-listed businesses

  • Large inbound organisations

  • Private equity-backed businesses

Because BDO does not operate through compliance centres or centres of excellence in this area, you will work directly with clients and technical experts, giving you hands-on exposure and meaningful responsibility from an early stage.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in speaking with newly or recently qualified auditors who are looking to move into tax, as well as tax professionals who want to specialise in tax reporting and the audit of tax.

You’ll be a strong fit if you have:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in audit and/or tax within a Big Four or mid-tier firm

  • An ACA and/or CTA qualification (or equivalent)

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet agreed deadlines

  • Experience coaching or supporting junior team members

  • Confidence in dealing directly with clients

  • The ability to work proactively and independently

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the confidence to engage regularly with:

  • Senior Managers

  • Directors

  • Partners

What You Can Expect

This is a role designed to give you both challenge and support. You will work closely with experienced senior professionals and benefit from on-the-job coaching to deepen your technical knowledge and build your expertise in tax accounting and tax audit.

You will be encouraged to take ownership of your work, contribute ideas, and play an active role in improving how we deliver services to clients.
