**Tax Manager

Saffery is looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join our Leeds office, taking a lead role in managing the personal tax compliance cycle for a diverse and growing client portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys combining high-quality compliance delivery with tailored advisory work. You will work with a broad range of clients, including individuals, trusts, partnerships and LLPs, with a particular focus on landed estates and rural businesses.

As part of a collaborative training office, this role also offers the chance to support and develop junior colleagues through practical, on-the-job coaching. For those keen to broaden their involvement, there are also opportunities to contribute to firmwide advisory projects, committees and presentations.


The Opportunity

In this role, you will take ownership of a portfolio of personal tax clients, overseeing the annual compliance process while also providing ad hoc advice linked to each client’s wider tax position.

You will be joining a firm that values technical excellence, strong client relationships and professional development, with scope to shape the role around your experience and strengths.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the personal tax compliance cycle for your own client portfolio

  • Review work prepared by junior members of the tax team

  • Provide ad hoc personal tax advice in support of annual compliance work

  • Work with a varied client base, including:

  • Individuals

  • Trusts

  • Partnerships

  • LLPs

  • Support clients across a range of sectors, especially:

  • Landed estates

  • Rural businesses

  • Contribute to the development of junior staff through day-to-day mentoring and training

  • Get involved in wider firm initiatives such as:

  • Advisory projects

  • Internal committees

  • Presentations and knowledge sharing


About the Team

The Personal Tax team at Saffery is made up of more than 120 professionals working across 8 UK offices:

  • Bristol

  • Bournemouth

  • High Wycombe

  • Peterborough

  • Edinburgh

  • Inverness

  • Leeds

  • Manchester

The team is known for delivering high-quality compliance and advisory services to a broad spectrum of high-net-worth private clients. This includes clients with:

  • UK and offshore interests

  • Property ownership

  • Business interests

  • Partnership structures

  • Trust arrangements


About the Leeds Office

Our Leeds office is home to 6 partners and more than 80 staff, offering a supportive and collaborative working environment.

Based in a modern, purpose-built office space at Wellington Place, which opened in 2024, the office is within easy walking distance of the city centre and is well connected by both bus and national rail services.


What We're Looking For

We are seeking a motivated and experienced tax professional with a strong background in personal tax compliance and people management.

Skills and experience required

  • A positive and enthusiastic approach

  • High levels of motivation, capability and commitment

  • Previous management experience, including:

  • Running your own portfolio

  • Reviewing the work of junior tax staff

  • Strong experience in the delivery and management of personal tax compliance services

  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage deadlines effectively

  • Experience providing tailored tax advice, including:

  • Inheritance tax planning

  • Capital gains tax planning

  • International tax matters

  • Trust planning

  • A sufficiently broad advisory background to work across most, if not all, of the areas above

  • Exposure to land-based tax issues, which form a significant part of the current workload

  • A background in professional services

  • Confident communication skills when working with:

  • Clients

  • Colleagues

  • Partners

  • The ability to work well using your own initiative

  • A collaborative approach and strength as a team player

  • Strong attention to detail

  • The ability to deliver work accurately and efficiently

  • Excellent IT skills
