Private Client Tax Director
Azets
Azets is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Private Client Tax Director to lead complex personal tax advisory and compliance work, manage key client relationships, and play a central role in the continued growth of the firm.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a tax professional who combines technical excellence with commercial awareness, people leadership, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.
About the Opportunity
As Private Client Tax Director, you will provide strategic direction across a significant client portfolio, offering high-level advice on complex personal tax matters while ensuring the delivery of high-quality compliance and advisory services.
You will also be instrumental in developing the team, strengthening client relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and enhancing Azets’ market presence and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
Client Leadership & Service Excellence
Lead and strengthen relationships with key Azets clients.
Build trusted, long-term partnerships by understanding both current priorities and future client needs.
Identify and deliver service improvements that enhance the client experience.
Lead cross-service line collaboration to provide a joined-up solution for clients.
Maintain excellent client satisfaction, measured against relevant KPIs.
Handle client concerns and complaints in line with Azets processes.
Use a variety of influencing approaches to create strategic impact and positive outcomes.
Technical Expertise
Act as a recognised technical expert in private client tax.
Take ownership of complex compliance engagements and ad-hoc advisory work, including:
approach
fee setting
risk assessment
technical direction
Ensure team members have the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to deliver accurate, high-quality work.
Anticipate technical and regulatory changes and address capability gaps through:
training
talent planning
resource allocation
software planning
Maintain broad awareness of other service lines and identify opportunities to support clients beyond your specialism.
Drive standards that go beyond minimum quality expectations.
Business Growth & Commercial Impact
Develop and grow your external network, converting relationships into new opportunities for both your team and Azets more broadly.
Expand and develop your client portfolio, including:
fee growth from existing services
successful introduction of new services
identification of cross-selling opportunities
Assess the effectiveness of business development efforts and refine strategies where performance is below expectations.
Understand the commercial realities of client engagements and work across service lines to align on fee-setting and fee growth.
Clearly articulate the value proposition of the team’s service offering.
Support and enforce minimum pricing initiatives and proactively contribute to RRR reviews.
Leadership & Team Development
Set a clear direction for the team while balancing business priorities with people priorities.
Foster a culture of trust, openness, collaboration, and accountability.
Empower colleagues through effective delegation and meaningful development opportunities.
Support the wider team’s career progression and future development planning.
Identify underperformance or inefficiency and work with managers to implement appropriate solutions, including training and consultation support where needed.
Help build and shape the team through active involvement in recruitment and resourcing.
Operational Effectiveness & Continuous Improvement
Oversee assignments across local regions, ensuring delivery to agreed timelines and budgets.
Continuously review departmental processes with a focus on:

Lead digital transformation and embed technology-driven improvements throughout the team.
Use market insight, organisational data, and operational knowledge to identify efficiencies and drive improvement.

Contribute to the development of Azets’ quality monitoring processes.
Strategic Contribution
Work closely with fellow Directors and Partners on departmental strategy and future planning.
Take ownership of specific strategic or operational areas within the department.
Support integrated resource planning to maximise both team capability and revenue streams.
Champion innovation, technological advancement, and change across the wider team.
Help maintain a consistent and unified Azets brand, strategy, and set of values.

Qualifications
Accountancy and/or tax qualification required, or qualified by experience.
