The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and driven R&D Manager to become a key part of our growing London team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional with strong R&D tax knowledge, leadership capability, and a passion for delivering exceptional client outcomes.

In this role, you will combine technical expertise, people leadership, and strategic insight to support clients, develop your team, and strengthen Ayming’s position as a trusted adviser in R&D tax consulting.

What You’ll Be Doing

Client Advisory & Technical Leadership

• Act as a senior adviser on R&D tax relief matters, providing specialist guidance to clients.

• Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical queries and client issues.

• Ensure lessons learned and feedback are captured and shared to improve internal knowledge and service delivery.

• Support high-quality claim preparation and review, ensuring work aligns with HMRC guidance and relevant legislation.

Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong client relationships through trusted, insightful, and proactive support.

• Use your communication and client-facing skills to retain and grow satisfied client accounts.

• Deliver a professional and consultative experience that reinforces Ayming’s reputation for excellence.

Team Leadership

• Lead and develop a team of 5 professionals, creating an environment where collaboration and peer-to-peer learning thrive.

• Encourage knowledge sharing, coaching, and continuous improvement across the team.

• Oversee delivery on complex claims and client projects, ensuring deadlines, quality, and client expectations are met.

Strategic Contribution

• Monitor developments in the R&D tax landscape and stay informed on emerging industry trends.

• Act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge internally and externally where appropriate.

• Work closely with colleagues across the business to:

• Maintain quality standards

• Support business development activity

• Raise the profile of the department

• Drive innovative approaches and solutions

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

• A degree in STEM or Finance

• Additional qualifications such as ATT, CTA, or project management certifications like APM or PRINCE2 would be advantageous

Experience

• At least 3 years’ experience in R&D tax or a similar specialist area

• A minimum of 2 years in a leadership or management role

• Proven experience of interacting with HMRC

• Strong understanding of:

• R&D Tax Credits

• SME and RDEC schemes

• Relevant legislation and compliance requirements

Skills & Attributes

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Effective project management capability

• Clear and confident written and verbal communication

• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage workloads, and support client delivery

• Commercial awareness with a focus on quality and client satisfaction
