R&D Tax Senior Manager

S&W is hiring an R&D Tax Senior Manager in Bristol to help drive the growth of its R&D tax service line within a fast-growing UK accountancy firm. The role focuses on managing a portfolio of client engagements, ensuring exceptional service delivery, and supporting Directors and Partners with both client work and team management. It combines technical R&D tax expertise with people leadership and operational responsibility. The successful candidate will oversee R&D tax credit claims for a varied client base, including SMEs and large corporates. Key duties include reviewing client operations and financial data to identify qualifying R&D activities and expenditure, leading client meetings, collaborating across teams to prepare robust documentation, and staying current with R&D tax legislation and HMRC guidance. The role also requires managing project timelines and budgets to deliver high-quality work efficiently. In addition to client work, the Senior Manager will play an important leadership role within the team. This includes helping to design and implement operational processes, mentoring and developing colleagues, contributing to the learning and development programme, and formally line managing team members. The position also has a commercial dimension, with responsibility for supporting business development and building a professional network. Candidates should have relevant qualifications and experience in an engineering or scientific discipline, alongside strong experience delivering R&D tax services, handling HMRC enquiries, and advising on structured R&D tax matters.
