The Opportunity
In this role, you will contribute to both **tax compliance** and **tax advisory** activities across the UK and Europe. You will help ensure that BBVA remains compliant with evolving tax regulations, while also supporting business initiatives and transactions with clear, practical tax guidance.
This position is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with stakeholder engagement, governance, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
UK Tax Compliance
You will play a central role in supporting the UK Branch’s tax compliance framework and ensuring robust reporting and governance standards are maintained.
Track and interpret changes in UK tax laws, regulations, rulings, and procedures, assessing their potential impact on the business.
Identify and implement local tax requirements for the UK Branch, including the review of processes and supporting documentation.
Support the development and enhancement of internal controls to ensure accurate, complete, and timely tax reporting.
Review tax filings and help maintain appropriate tax reporting policies and procedures in line with regulatory expectations.
Provide assistance during HMRC audits and respond to other regulatory requests or inquiries.
Contribute to internal and external tax working groups, representing BBVA on relevant CIB tax matters and industry advocacy initiatives.
Assist in maintaining and updating Policies & Procedures, ensuring alignment with internal governance standards.
Coordinate with external tax advisors, accounting firms, and internal teams to support tax compliance and risk management.
Work closely with Holding teams on ongoing tax matters and related reporting requirements.
Organise the UK Tax Committee on a quarterly basis.
UK & Europe Tax Advisory
Alongside compliance responsibilities, you will also provide practical day-to-day tax support to the business across the UK and European branches.
Respond to tax-related queries from CIB business units in a timely and commercially aware manner.
Review and negotiate tax provisions in credit facilities across the UK and Europe.
Assess tax implications of CIB products, transactions, and strategic business initiatives.
Support cross-border tax matters and contribute to advisory work affecting multiple jurisdictions.
Process Transformation and Innovation
This role also supports the ongoing evolution of Finance and Tax processes through digital transformation and innovation.
Contribute to the improvement of Finance/Tax processes by identifying opportunities to streamline workflows.
Leverage digital and AI tools to enhance efficiency, reporting quality, and operational effectiveness.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a tax professional with **at least 5 years of relevant experience** who can bring strong technical knowledge, sound judgement, and a collaborative mindset to the team.
Required Experience and Expertise
Proven experience within a multinational organisation or a Big 4 accounting firm.
Strong understanding of UK tax legislation, including:
HMRC compliance
Corporate Tax
VAT
Experience managing tax reporting cycles and handling cross-border tax matters.
Exposure to tax advisory work supporting business initiatives and transactions.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear guidance for non-tax stakeholders.
A proactive and adaptable approach, with a strong commitment to continuous learning in a changing regulatory environment.
Full professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Desirable
Knowledge of AI tools and their application within tax or finance functions.
Spanish language skills would be an advantage.
