About the Role

**Associate Solicitor

    Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP

Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP is seeking a talented Associate Solicitor to join its highly regarded Corporate Tax team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a respected practice that advises a broad range of UK and international clients on complex transactional and standalone tax matters.

The team is known for delivering commercially focused, pragmatic advice across the full spectrum of corporate tax work. From acquisitions, disposals, and reorganisations to VAT, international tax, venture capital matters, and tax disputes, this role offers exposure to high-quality and varied work within a collaborative and supportive environment.

About the Team

Our Corporate Tax team provides strategic advice to businesses at every stage of their lifecycle. We support clients on major transactions, day-to-day tax issues, and specialist tax matters, always aiming to align our advice with their commercial goals.

The team’s expertise includes:

  • Corporate acquisitions, disposals, and reorganisations

  • Tax structuring and tax clearances

  • Stamp duty advice

  • VAT and international tax matters

  • Tax disputes

  • Venture capital tax advice

  • Share incentive arrangements for employees, directors, and advisers

We are particularly well regarded for our work in the venture capital space, including advising companies on eligibility for tax-efficient investment schemes and establishing share incentives.

Our lawyers work closely with clients and their wider professional advisers to provide tailored solutions. Because of the team’s in-house expertise, there is no reliance on outside consultants, helping clients achieve efficient, cost-effective outcomes.

The Opportunity

As an Associate Solicitor, you will play an important role in supporting the team’s continued success while delivering exceptional service to clients. This position is suited to a lawyer who enjoys high-quality technical work, building client relationships, and contributing to business development initiatives.

You will be joining a team that values technical excellence, commercial awareness, and a practical approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will contribute to both fee-earning work and the wider growth of the practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking fee-earning work and making a profitable contribution to the division

  • Delivering high-quality legal advice in line with professional standards, firm policies, and ethical obligations

  • Supporting the firm’s strategic objectives and contributing to its wider business plan

  • Acting as a positive ambassador for the firm in all professional interactions

  • Communicating with clients via email and telephone, including taking instructions

  • Reviewing documents and accurately recording findings

  • Assisting with case management and the day-to-day progress of matters

  • Supporting transactional tax work within often fast-paced timeframes

  • Drafting and assisting with documentation relating to share incentive schemes

  • Preparing applications to HMRC for S/EIS relief

  • Producing investor certificates

  • Helping with business development activities, including maintaining marketing materials and contact lists

  • Handling additional ad hoc tasks as required by the team

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a confident and capable solicitor who can combine technical ability with strong organisational and communication skills.

Essential criteria:

  • 2-5 years’ post-qualification experience

  • SRA qualified lawyer

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong IT skills, including confidence with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to manage a busy workload effectively

  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Confidence in client-facing meetings and communications

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Commercial awareness

  • Ability to perform well under pressure

  • A receptive and adaptable approach to change
