Share Schemes Tax Specialist
Global Employer Services | BDO
BDO is an accountancy and business advisory firm that helps entrepreneurial organisations respond to change, unlock growth, and move forward with confidence. We work closely with ambitious, high-growth businesses that power the economy, supporting the owners and leadership teams behind their success.
Within our business, the Tax team plays a vital role in delivering specialist expertise to clients across the UK and internationally. It is a collaborative, high-performing, and diverse team that helps businesses navigate evolving legislation, changing commercial priorities, and increasingly complex tax matters.
As part of this team, Global Employer Services supports organisations and individuals with the tax implications of international mobility. From fast-growing start-ups to global multinational groups, we help clients make informed decisions when people, rewards, and responsibilities move across borders.
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing and close-knit team where relationship-building, technical quality, and career development are genuinely valued.
You will work directly with senior colleagues, including partners on a day-to-day basis, giving you exposure to high-quality work and the chance to deepen your expertise in reward and share schemes. The role offers the scope to broaden your experience, build on your strengths, and shape a long-term career in an area of tax that is both specialist and commercially important.
We are looking for someone who is confident working independently, proactive in managing their workload, and equally comfortable collaborating with others. Strong communication skills and the ability to develop trusted client relationships will be essential to success in this role.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a key member of the Global Employer Services team, you will provide reward and share schemes advice to a varied portfolio of clients.
Your responsibilities will include:
Advising clients on the tax treatment of share options and other employee share ownership arrangements
Applying strong technical knowledge across EMI, ESS, and related areas including employment tax, NIC, and capital gains tax
Providing expertise on specialist arrangements such as split interest, freezer, and nil paid structures
Preparing share valuations and liaising directly with HMRC
Managing and developing junior team members through mentoring and staff supervision
Considering the wider implications of share incentives, including accounting, employment law, and company law
Building strong client relationships, including direct communication and fee agreement
Working closely with senior managers, directors, and partners to deliver high-quality client outcomes
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a professional with a strong blend of technical capability, commercial awareness, and people skills.
You will ideally bring:
Proven experience in share schemes and reward-related tax matters
Strong technical understanding of share options, employee share ownership, and associated tax implications
Experience working with HMRC on valuations and related matters
Demonstrable staff management and mentoring experience
The confidence to work directly with clients and build trusted, long-term relationships
A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across teams and senior stakeholder groups
Qualifications:
Degree educated
LLB preferred
And/or CTA, ATT, ACA, or equivalent professional qualification
