Tax Advisory Manager

Aberdeen

Join Aberdeen and help shape the future of one of the UK’s leading Wealth & Investments groups. With a clear ambition to lead the market, Aberdeen is investing in its people, strengthening its culture, and building an environment where top talent can thrive.

Our colleagues play a vital role in creating positive outcomes for clients, customers, fellow employees, shareholders, and society. If you are looking for a role where your expertise can influence strategy, governance, and business success, this could be an exciting next step.

About Aberdeen

Aberdeen is focused on expanding its direct and advised wealth platforms while repositioning its specialist asset management business to meet changing client needs. We combine excellent client service with strong talent and modern technology to deliver long-term value.

Our business is built around three core areas:

Our Businesses

  • interactive investor (ii): The UK’s second largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, helping individuals plan, save, and invest in a way that suits them.
  • Adviser: Providing financial planning solutions and technology that enable UK financial advisers to deliver value to their customers.
  • Investments: A specialist asset manager focused on areas where Aberdeen has both strength and scale, across public and alternative markets.

About the Finance Function

The Finance function is led by the Chief Financial Officer and is made up of four specialist teams alongside three commercially focused business units that support interactive investor, Adviser, and Investments.

This structure is supported by a dedicated **Finance COO Office**, helping to drive operational excellence and strategic alignment across the group.

About the Tax Team

The Tax function is one of Aberdeen’s specialist teams and is led by the **Group Tax Director**. It operates as a global specialist function responsible for tax compliance, efficiency, governance, and strategic tax planning across the group.

The team is primarily based in **Edinburgh** and **London** and includes expertise across:

- **Tax Reporting** - **Advisory and International** - **Public Markets Tax** - **Private Markets Tax** - **Indirect and Operational Taxes**

This opportunity sits within the **Advisory Tax team** and reports directly to the **Head of Advisory Tax**.

The Opportunity

As **Tax Advisory Manager**, you will play an important role in strengthening Aberdeen’s tax governance framework. You will support the enhancement of Advisory Tax controls, documentation standards, tax policies, and operational tax strategy.

This is a broad and visible position, offering exposure across the wider group. You will work closely with colleagues throughout Tax, Finance, HR, Legal, and the wider business to deliver practical advice, well-governed outcomes, and clear tax guidance.

You will also act as a trusted adviser to internal stakeholders, helping them understand tax obligations, respond to policy developments, assess risks, and ensure the Group’s public tax strategy is clearly embedded and consistently applied.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will contribute to both day-to-day advisory activity and wider strategic initiatives. Success will require strong technical judgement, clear communication, excellent organisation, and a collaborative working style.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tax advisory support on business and operational projects, identifying risks and opportunities at an early stage.
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality documentation, including technical papers, governance materials, internal guidance, and process notes.
  • Support legal entity rationalisation initiatives, including documentation, step planning, and coordination with Legal and Finance teams.
  • Monitor tax policy developments and international changes, translating them into clear and practical stakeholder briefings.
  • Strengthen tax governance by enhancing advisory controls, review processes, and documentation frameworks.
  • Drive process improvement, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, documentation quality, and technology-enabled ways of working.
  • Manage transfer pricing documentation, including local files, policy updates, and coordination of transfer pricing working groups.
  • Partner with HR on employment tax matters, ensuring joined-up processes, decisions, and advisor outputs.
  • Maintain and update the Group’s tax strategy, ensuring policies remain current, clearly documented, and consistently followed.
  • Manage external advisors, ensuring delivery is pragmatic, commercial, and of a high standard.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a tax professional with a strong advisory background, commercial awareness, and the ability to work effectively in a complex and evolving environment.

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Proven tax advisory experience, ideally gained in a large, complex, or multinational organisation.
  • Professional qualification such as ACA, CTA, or equivalent — or strong relevant experience.
  • Strong technical judgement with the ability to provide balanced, practical advice.
  • Adaptability and confidence working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Commercial mindset, ensuring recommendations align with strategic and long-term business objectives.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and stakeholder-focused documentation.
  • Strong relationship-building ability, with confidence engaging and collaborating across multiple functions.
  • Credibility and impact, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively, and build trust.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented approach, with a curiosity that helps identify risks and challenge assumptions.
  • High proficiency in Excel and data management, with a strong focus on accuracy.
