About the Role

Tax Advisory Manager

Aberdeen

Join Aberdeen and be part of a business with a clear ambition: to become the UK’s leading Wealth & Investments group.

At Aberdeen, people and culture are central to our success. We are committed to creating an environment where talented individuals can thrive, grow, and make a meaningful impact. Everything we do is shaped by a shared purpose — putting stakeholders first and making a positive difference for our clients, customers, colleagues, shareholders, and wider society.

As we continue to grow our direct and advised wealth platforms and evolve our specialist asset management business, we are looking for exceptional talent to help us deliver excellent client outcomes through strong expertise, innovative technology, and collaborative teamwork.

About Aberdeen

Aberdeen brings together three distinct businesses, each designed to meet the changing needs of clients:

- **interactive investor (ii)** – the UK’s second-largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, helping individuals plan, save, and invest with confidence. - **Adviser** – delivering financial planning solutions and technology that enable UK financial advisers to create value for their clients. - **Investments** – a specialist asset management business focused on areas where Aberdeen has both strength and scale across public and alternative markets.

Together, these businesses reflect our focus on innovation, adaptability, and long-term client value.

About the Finance & Tax Function

The Finance function is led by the Chief Financial Officer and is structured around four specialist teams alongside three commercially aligned business units supporting interactive investor, Adviser, and Investments. This structure is further supported by a dedicated Finance COO Office, helping to drive operational excellence and strategic alignment across the group.

The Tax function is one of these specialist teams and is led by the Group Tax Director. It operates as a global specialist function, overseeing tax compliance, governance, efficiency, and strategic tax matters across the organisation.

Predominantly based in Edinburgh and London, the Tax function includes specialist teams across:

- **Tax Reporting** - **Advisory and International** - **Public Markets Tax** - **Private Markets Tax** - **Indirect and Operational Taxes**

This opportunity sits within the Advisory Tax team and reports directly to the Head of Advisory Tax.

The Opportunity

As Tax Advisory Manager, you will play an important role in strengthening Aberdeen’s tax governance framework and supporting the continued development of Advisory Tax controls, policies, documentation standards, and operational tax strategy.

This is a broad and visible role offering exposure across the wider group. You will work closely with colleagues across Tax, Finance, HR, Legal, and the wider business to deliver clear, practical, and commercially aware tax advice.

You will also serve as a trusted adviser to internal stakeholders — helping them understand tax requirements, interpret policy changes, assess risk, and ensure well-governed tax outcomes across a wide range of activities and projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will contribute to the core priorities of the Advisory Tax team by combining technical expertise with strong governance, effective collaboration, and a practical approach to problem-solving.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing tax advisory support on business-as-usual matters as well as business and operational projects, identifying risks and opportunities early.
  • Preparing and maintaining high-quality documentation, including technical papers, governance materials, internal guidance, and process documents.
  • Supporting legal entity rationalisation initiatives, including drafting documentation, preparing step plans, and coordinating with Legal and Finance teams.
  • Managing tax policy developments by tracking legislative and international changes and translating them into clear, actionable stakeholder briefings.
  • Enhancing tax governance and controls, helping to strengthen documentation frameworks, advisory controls, and review processes.
  • Driving process improvement by improving documentation quality, streamlining workflows, and supporting technology-enabled ways of working.
  • Leading transfer pricing documentation activity, including local files, policy updates, and coordination of transfer pricing working groups.
  • Partnering with HR on employment tax matters to ensure well-controlled, aligned, and practical outcomes.
  • Maintaining the Group’s public tax strategy, ensuring policies remain up to date, clearly documented, and consistently applied.
  • Managing external advisers, ensuring advice is pragmatic, high quality, and aligned to business needs.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a technically strong and commercially aware tax professional who is comfortable working in a complex and evolving environment.

You’re likely to bring:

  • A strong background in Tax Advisory, ideally gained within a large, complex, or fast-paced organisation.
  • A relevant professional qualification such as ACA, CTA, or equivalent — or significant relevant experience.
  • Excellent technical judgement and the ability to apply tax knowledge in a practical, business-focused way.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and stakeholder-friendly documentation.
  • The confidence to build relationships across teams, collaborate effectively, and challenge constructively where needed.
  • A commercial mindset, ensuring advice supports broader organisational objectives and long-term value creation.
  • The ability to stay effective in a changing environment with shifting priorities.
  • A naturally analytical, curious, and detail-oriented approach, with the confidence to question information and identify potential risks.
  • High proficiency in Excel and data management, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Discretionary performance-based bonus (where applicable)

We welcome and celebrate difference in its broadest sense, including but not limited to differences in educational and professional background, experience, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion or belief, ethnicity, geographical provenance, and cognitive or neurodiversity.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Committed employer. If you would like to apply to one of our UK roles under the Disability Confident Scheme, please indicate this in the relevant section of the candidate questionnaire and a member of our team will support you through the process.

If you require any assistance with your application or need reasonable adjustments at any stage — whether due to a physical, sensory, cognitive, visible, invisible, or neurodivergent condition — we encourage you to let us know. We will be happy to help.
