The Opportunity
Barings is seeking a Corporate Tax Manager to join its Corporate Accounting team in London at Associate Director level. This is a key role focused on leading the UK corporate tax compliance cycle, supporting UK VAT matters, and driving process and control enhancements across tax operations.
This position offers the chance to work across a broad range of tax responsibilities, partner with internal stakeholders and external advisors, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of tax reporting and compliance processes within an international business environment.
Key Responsibilities
UK Corporation Tax Compliance
You will take ownership of the UK corporation tax compliance process and help ensure all obligations are met accurately and efficiently.
Prepare UK corporation tax returns using Alphatax
Manage data flows from the accounting ledger into Alphatax, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
Support the preparation of the tax charge for inclusion in the year-end accounts
Calculate quarterly instalment payments
Manage communication with HMRC, including drafting responses to queries
Assist with parent group tax reporting requirements
Irish and European Tax Compliance Oversight
You will also play an important role in overseeing Irish tax compliance and supporting wider European outsourced compliance activities.
Provide information to local advisors responsible for preparing Irish corporation tax and VAT returns
Review and oversee work completed by external advisors
Maintain oversight of outsourced tax compliance for European subsidiaries and branches
UK VAT and Related Compliance
This role will involve hands-on support for UK VAT compliance and related reporting requirements.
Prepare quarterly partial exemption VAT calculations
Respond to VAT-related queries from the Accounts Payable and Corporate Accounting teams
Prepare VAT reconciliations
Complete the UK PAYE Settlement calculations and submit the return
Process Improvement and Advisory Support
Beyond core compliance, you will help strengthen controls, improve ways of working, and provide practical tax guidance to colleagues across the business.
Identify and implement process improvements and control enhancements
Explore the use of AI and automation tools where appropriate to improve efficiency
Respond to corporate tax and VAT queries from the Corporate Accounting team and wider organisation
Monitor changes in tax legislation and tax authority practice, ensuring relevant stakeholders are kept informed
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a technically strong and commercially aware tax professional who combines compliance expertise with a proactive and improvement-focused mindset.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
Qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CTA, or equivalent
Strong UK tax compliance experience across both:
Corporation tax
VAT
Minimum of three years’ relevant experience
Strong Excel skills
Ability to understand new tax rules quickly and assess their impact on the business
Key Strengths

Strong ability to document existing processes and drive continuous improvement
Confident explaining complex tax matters in a clear and accessible way to non-tax colleagues
Highly organised and methodical, with strong prioritisation skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
Ability to develop strong working relationships across a diverse business environment
Desirable Experience
Familiarity with:
Country-by-Country Reporting
BEPS Pillar 2
Corporate Interest Restriction rules
Transfer pricing
Prior experience using Alphatax and Workday
Tax experience within the investment management sector
Demonstrated success in improving data migration processes
Exposure to using AI to support process efficiency
