About the Role

Tax Manager, Global Tax Controversy (EMEA)

Amazon UK Services Ltd.
Job ID: A3205216

Amazon is looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join its Global Tax Controversy Team, with a primary focus on EMEA tax controversy matters. This opportunity is ideal for a tax professional who thrives in a fast-moving environment and is motivated by solving complex cross-border tax issues with real commercial impact.

In this role, you will help manage and resolve a broad range of tax disputes across the EMEA region, including matters relating to transfer pricing, Advanced Pricing Agreements (APAs), Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAP), and tax litigation involving both corporate income tax and VAT.

The Opportunity

This position offers the chance to work at the centre of Amazon’s international tax controversy function, supporting high-value and strategically important matters across multiple jurisdictions. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external authorities to drive resolution, reduce risk, and support the business through a sophisticated and evolving tax landscape.

The successful candidate will be someone who is highly adaptable, commercially minded, and comfortable managing several priorities at once. You should be ready to take ownership, work hands-on, and deliver results in a setting where deadlines, priorities, and challenges can shift quickly.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Tax Manager, you will play a key role in managing tax controversy matters across the EMEA region and partnering with teams across Amazon’s wider tax and legal functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support EMEA tax controversy matters, including audits, disputes, and litigation

  • Manage transfer pricing disputes and contribute to APA and MAP processes

  • Handle matters involving corporate income tax and indirect tax/VAT

  • Work closely with internal business teams to help progress and resolve ongoing tax issues

  • Partner with colleagues across tax disciplines, including:

  • Transfer pricing

  • International tax

  • Mergers & acquisitions

  • Tax compliance

  • Coordinate with Amazon Legal on EMEA tax litigation matters

  • Engage with tax authorities across multiple jurisdictions

  • Balance multiple workstreams and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of delivery

A Day in the Role

No two days are likely to look the same. You may be reviewing tax controversy strategy for a transfer pricing matter in one jurisdiction, supporting a VAT dispute in another, or aligning with legal and tax colleagues on a litigation issue affecting the wider business.

This role involves close collaboration with teams across Amazon and may include some international travel. It is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, complexity, and cross-border problem-solving.

About the Team

The Global Tax Controversy Team is responsible for managing tax audits and disputes in jurisdictions around the world. The team also oversees relationships with tax authorities in multiple countries and plays a critical role in navigating complex international tax issues on behalf of Amazon.

In addition, the team manages the competent authority relationship between the United States and its treaty partners globally in the context of both APA and MAP matters.

What We’re Looking For

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of tax experience gained in:

  • a Big 4 accounting firm, or

  • an established tax department of a top UK law firm, or

  • a highly regarded international legal practice

  • Strong experience in corporate tax and/or indirect tax

  • Clear expertise in tax controversy and/or transfer pricing

  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical ability with a high level of commercial awareness

  • Proven success working with multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary teams

  • Ability to build effective partnerships with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation

  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment

  • Consistently high standards with excellent attention to detail

Why Join Amazon
