Tax Controversy & Risk Management Opportunities at EY

Locations: London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, or Edinburgh

Shape the Future of Tax Dispute Resolution with EY

EY is looking for talented professionals to join our Tax Controversy and Risk Management (TCRM) team — one of the largest and most established tax dispute resolution teams in the UK.

As part of EY’s wider International Tax and Transaction Services practice, our TCRM team brings together deep expertise in tax dispute resolution, litigation, and risk management. Over the past 15 years, we have built a strong reputation for growth, quality, and impact — and our ambitions continue to grow.

We are keen to hear from both experienced dispute resolution specialists and individuals with a strong interest in building a successful career in this evolving and high-profile area of tax.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will support businesses in managing complex tax controversies, engaging proactively with HMRC, and navigating areas of tax risk with confidence.

You will combine technical tax knowledge with strong dispute resolution skills, helping clients reach effective outcomes while contributing to a highly collaborative and supportive team culture across EY’s Tax practice.

If you have experience working with large multinational organisations, this will be particularly valuable in helping you succeed in the role.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of the TCRM team, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the delivery of tax controversy projects with a focus on both technical quality and commercial effectiveness

  • Working closely with clients and coordinating with wider tax and client account teams on ongoing engagements

  • Driving actions and strategies that help clients achieve tax certainty and effective dispute outcomes

  • Assisting with SAO certification and published tax strategy preparation

  • Helping clients prepare for Business Risk Review+ discussions with HMRC

  • Identifying, assessing, and managing tax risk across a range of complex scenarios

  • Contributing to proactive HMRC engagement and supporting disputes through to resolution

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in professionals who bring a blend of technical capability, commercial awareness, and a collaborative approach.

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Broad experience in corporate tax compliance or advisory

  • A strong desire to specialise in tax controversy and dispute resolution

  • Previous tax controversy experience is welcome, but not essential

  • Strong technical tax knowledge and a commitment to ongoing development

  • The ability to analyse and interpret tax legislation accurately and effectively

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively across functions

  • Confidence in identifying risk, carrying out reviews, and escalating issues appropriately

  • An interest in continuous improvement, innovation, and the use of technology and AI tools

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you should have one of the following:

  • ACA / CA / ACCA / CTA (or equivalent), along with experience in a corporate tax-focused role

  • Tax Inspector experience with full Technical Training Course completion (IDP / TPDP / TSP, or equivalent) at Grade 7 or above for roles at Manager level and above

Desirable Experience

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Current experience in tax controversy or corporate tax

  • A genuine interest in developing a specialist focus in tax controversy

  • A proactive attitude toward professional learning and career development
