About the Role

Alternative Funds Tax Manager

Grant Thornton UK | London

Shape the future of alternative funds tax with a firm that is redefining what professional services can look like.

At Grant Thornton UK, we believe in doing things differently. We are future-focused, growth-driven, and committed to creating meaningful change across our industry. Through our audit, tax, and advisory services, we help clients succeed with strategic insight, commercial thinking, and genuine collaboration.

Just as importantly, we invest in our people — offering real career opportunities, an inclusive culture, and a strong commitment to work-life balance. With more than 5,000 colleagues across the UK and access to a network spanning 150 global markets, we are on an exciting journey from great to exceptional.

If you are looking for a role where you can make an impact, build strong client relationships, and grow in a specialist, high-performing team, this could be the opportunity for you.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Manager to join our Alternative Funds Tax team in London.

This team delivers a broad range of tax compliance, advisory, and transaction services to alternative funds and their investment managers across multiple asset classes, including:

  • Private equity

  • Venture capital

  • Private debt

  • Hedge funds

  • Real estate

  • Infrastructure

  • Crypto assets

Our clients represent the full spectrum of the asset management world, including:

  • Traditional asset managers

  • Financial services institutions

  • Private equity funds

  • Alternative investors

  • Real estate businesses

  • Wealth managers

  • Hedge funds

  • UK pension funds

  • Global institutional investors

As part of the wider Financial Services Tax team, you will work within a practice that supports clients across:

  • Wealth and Asset Management

  • Banking and Capital Markets

  • Insurance

This is a compliance-led role, but the fast-moving nature of the alternative funds sector means you will also gain exposure to structuring, transactions, investor reporting, and advisory projects both in the UK and internationally.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Alternative Funds Tax Manager, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality service to a varied and sophisticated client base.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the full suite of tax compliance for asset managers and the funds they manage

  • Overseeing compliance across:

  • Trading corporates

  • Trading partnerships

  • Investment partnerships

  • Investor reporting engagements

  • Working directly with UK and international asset managers to support their tax compliance obligations

  • Ensuring a smooth and efficient compliance process for clients

  • Taking ownership of key operational matters such as:

  • Financial management

  • Billing

  • Debtor management

  • Building and strengthening client relationships alongside the senior leadership and partner group

  • Supporting the delivery of standalone advisory assignments

  • Producing high-quality client deliverables with early responsibility and autonomy

  • Developing your commercial understanding of:

  • Alternative investment management

  • Tax issues affecting the sector

  • Supporting business development activity, including:

  • Identifying opportunities within existing clients

  • Helping grow key relationships

  • Contributing to winning new work

  • Acting as a role model and coach for junior team members

  • Contributing to team development through coaching, mentoring, and upskilling

  • Working collaboratively within a high-performing specialist financial services team

Why This Role Stands Out

This is more than a traditional compliance role.

You will join a team with ambitious growth plans, giving you the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects in a sector that is constantly evolving. No two days are the same, and success in this role will come from being adaptable, commercially aware, and energised by variety.

You will also benefit from strong visibility across the firm, including access to Partner and Director teams, as well as a wide range of training and development opportunities to strengthen both your technical and commercial skills.

What We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will need to bring strong technical capability, a client-focused mindset, and the confidence to manage a portfolio in a dynamic environment.

Minimum requirements

  • A professional qualification such as:

  • CTA

  • ACA

  • ACCA

  • or equivalent

  • Confidence in managing a portfolio of clients

We’d also love to see experience in some of the following areas

  • Strong UK tax technical expertise

  • A genuine interest in the asset management sector

  • Experience working with one or more alternative asset classes, such as:

  • Private equity

  • Venture capital

  • Private credit

  • or similar

This is preferred, but not essential.

  • A blend of corporate and partnership tax compliance experience

  • A track record of leading projects with accountability and a focus on quality and timely delivery

  • A self-motivated, proactive approach

  • The ability to work effectively as a strong team player

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with systems and tools such as:

  • Alpha Tax

  • CCH Personal Tax

  • Power BI

  • Microsoft Office

  • and other relevant software

  • Experience in coaching and developing junior team members

If you do not meet every single point above, we would still encourage you to apply. Grant Thornton is committed to helping talented people grow and develop throughout their careers.

  • Job shares

  • Other arrangements that support a healthy work-life balance
