The Opportunity

Senior Accounting Leader / Head of Accounting Transformation

This is a true build role — not a steady-state maintenance position.

You will take ownership of creating n8n’s accounting and tax function from the ground up. That includes bringing accounting operations in-house, building robust multi-entity processes across Germany, the US, and the UK, leading an IFRS conversion, and helping implement a new ERP platform.

You’ll step into a high-impact position with visibility across senior leadership, the chance to shape a growing team, and the freedom to design a modern, AI-enabled accounting function ready to support rapid scale — and potentially, an IPO.

If you enjoy creating structure where little exists, designing systems from first principles, and building for the future rather than preserving the past, this role is built for you.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

1. Accounting Operations, Close & Consolidation

You will own the accounting function end-to-end, ensuring the business has reliable, scalable, and accurate financial operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead accounting across:

  • Accounts Payable

  • Accounts Receivable

  • General Ledger

  • Fixed assets

  • Accruals

  • Deferrals

  • Insource core accounting operations from an external bookkeeper within your first 3 months

  • Capture and formalise:

  • Processes

  • SLAs

  • Controls

  • Ownership structures

  • Build a disciplined monthly close process targeting a sub-5-day close

  • Drive toward a documented close calendar with repeatable execution

  • Lead group consolidation across entities, including:

  • Intercompany eliminations

  • FX translation

  • Reporting packages

  • Establish and enforce consistent accounting policies across all legal entities

  • Own the roadmap to IFRS reporting by 2027

  • Identify and close gaps between HGB and IFRS

  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements

  • Coordinate statutory audits and help select the group auditor

2. Tax, Compliance & International Structure

You will shape a compliant and scalable tax and legal-financial framework that supports international growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Design a tax-efficient group structure for current and future expansion

  • Ensure compliance with:

  • VAT / GST

  • Indirect taxes

  • Corporate and trade tax requirements

  • Mitigate permanent establishment risks across jurisdictions

  • Build transfer pricing frameworks and intercompany agreements

  • Partner with external advisors on tax documentation and strategic structuring

  • Set up accounting operations for the UK and US entities

  • Identify and onboard strong local tax advisors where needed

  • Build internal controls aligned with:

  • Audit readiness

  • Scaling requirements

  • Future capital markets expectations

  • Act as the primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors

3. Systems, Automation & Team Leadership

You will not only build the accounting function — you will modernise it.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-lead ERP selection and implementation alongside the Finance Systems team

  • Help create a scalable, automation-first finance technology stack

  • Automate routine accounting activity such as:

  • Journal entries

  • Approvals

  • Reconciliations

  • Target 50%+ automation of routine processes within the first 12 months

  • Champion the use of AI within accounting

  • Use AI tools and workflows to:

  • Accelerate close cycles

  • Improve accuracy

  • Reduce manual effort

  • Increase team capacity for strategic work

  • Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team

  • Build a culture of ownership, rigor, and continuous improvement

  • Partner cross-functionally with:

  • FP&A on reporting and cash forecasting

  • RevOps on quote-to-cash processes

  • People on payroll and benefits

  • Legal on entity management and compliance

  • Prepare the accounting and control environment for future milestones, including a potential IPO

What Success Looks Like

This role comes with clear and meaningful transformation goals.

You’ll be expected to help deliver

  • Full accounting insourcing within 3 months

  • A reliable sub-5-day monthly close within 12 months

  • A scalable multi-entity accounting and tax foundation across Germany, the US, and the UK

  • A clear and executable IFRS conversion plan for 2027

  • Selection and implementation of a new ERP

  • A stronger control environment ready for audit scale and future capital markets activity

  • This is not just curiosity — it is demonstrated practical use

Leadership and communication
