About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to join our team on a full-time fixed-term contract as maternity cover, starting in May 2026.
This role is responsible for the end-to-end ownership of indirect tax compliance, reporting, and advisory matters across Cromwell Group (Holdings) Limited and its subsidiaries in both the UK and 9 overseas jurisdictions. Working with internal stakeholders and external tax advisors, you will also play a vital role in strengthening our VAT controls framework through improved design, standardisation, and automation.
Key Responsibilities
As Indirect Tax Manager, you will lead and support a wide range of tax-related activities across the Group, including:
Driving the Group’s indirect tax strategy, with support from the Head of Tax and external advisors where required
Managing all indirect tax compliance obligations, including the preparation, review, and submission of VAT and other indirect tax returns, as well as associated tax payments
Overseeing VAT accounting and month-end processes, including indirect tax account preparation and reconciliations
Coordinating with tax advisors across multiple jurisdictions on indirect tax compliance and technical matters
Leading relationships with tax authorities, including handling enquiries, correspondence, and audits
Providing practical support to the business in resolving indirect tax queries
Conducting a full end-to-end VAT risk assessment across the business
Establishing and maintaining effective financial processes and internal controls to ensure return accuracy and improve operational efficiency
Managing an ongoing VAT audit and validation programme across the organisation
Monitoring and advising on changes in indirect tax legislation and assessing business impact
Delivering training to finance and non-finance teams on indirect tax treatment, accounting system processes, and broader compliance requirements
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a tax professional with strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the confidence to operate across a complex, international business environment.
Essential
5+ years’ experience in indirect tax
Hands-on experience preparing and filing VAT returns
Strong VAT accounting experience
Advanced Excel skills
Experience using SAP or similar large ERP systems
Desirable
ACA, ACCA, or CTA qualification
Experience working within a geographically dispersed organisation with international operations
