The Opportunity

Mastercard is seeking a Manager, Tax to support the Tax team across the EE Division, with a focus on tax planning, corporate tax compliance, and risk management.

This role will report to the VP, Tax EEMEA based in Gurugram, India, and will work closely with the Tax Director based in Dubai. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping Mastercard optimize tax opportunities, strengthen compliance, and manage tax risks across a region with varying tax systems, regulatory sophistication, and business environments.


What You’ll Be Responsible For

1. Tax Stewardship & Compliance

You will take ownership of key tax compliance and reporting activities, ensuring strong processes and effective controls are in place.

  • Oversee tax provisions and ensure timely completion with appropriate adequacy

  • Coordinate with Finance teams and external advisors on tax return preparation, filings, and statutory compliance

  • Identify tax opportunities while ensuring tax risk areas are properly evaluated and addressed

  • Recommend tax reserves where needed for positions taken in tax filings under both local GAAP and US GAAP

  • Manage tax accounting under US GAAP, including:

  • Tax provisions

  • Tax reserves

  • Compliance with ASC 740 and ASC 740-10

  • Support for both interim and annual reporting periods

  • Lead and manage tax audits, including the development of practical strategies to close audits in the company’s best interests

2. Business Partnership & Advisory

This role is not just about compliance—it is also about partnering with the business to create commercially effective and tax-efficient outcomes.

  • Serve as a trusted business partner to internal teams and cross-functional stakeholders

  • Review and provide tax input on:

  • New business initiatives

  • Commercial contracts

  • Internal policies and guidelines

  • Help business teams navigate contract negotiations where standard tax clauses are not accepted by counterparties

  • Propose alternative contractual terms or deal structures that:

  • Reduce tax exposure

  • Deliver tax savings

  • Minimize compliance burdens

  • Support M&A due diligence activities as needed

  • Represent the tax function when new regulations with tax implications are introduced

  • Collaborate with business and functional teams to ensure tax considerations are embedded into strategic planning and regulatory response

3. Tax Planning & Strategic Projects

You will contribute to both regional and broader tax initiatives, helping shape tax strategy across the organization.

  • Partner with the VP, Tax and Tax Director to develop and implement tax planning projects for the region

  • Act as a key contributor to regional and global tax projects

  • Monitor tax developments and provide insights on how they may affect business objectives

  • Deliver tax training and guidance to management and business partners where appropriate

  • Support relationship management with:

  • Internal business stakeholders

  • External legal counsel

  • Government agencies

  • Other external advisors across the region


What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical tax expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to operate effectively across a complex regional environment.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience in public accounting and industry tax roles

  • Strong understanding of:

  • Regional tax law and practice

  • Current tax developments across the region

  • International tax principles and concepts

  • Ability to assess the quality and soundness of advice provided by external consultants

  • Knowledge of US GAAP is an advantage

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification required

  • Professional qualification preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite

  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to:

  • Understand complex business contexts

  • Identify tax risks and opportunities

  • Develop and compare possible solutions

  • Evaluate pros and cons

  • Make sound, risk-based recommendations

Personal Attributes

  • Fast learner with the ability to work independently

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Fluent in English

  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude

  • Willingness to travel 15–20% of the time
