Key Responsibilities

As a Share Schemes Assistant Tax Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising clients on the tax, commercial, and practical considerations involved in implementing share schemes

  • Supporting the delivery of tax-favoured plans such as EMI and CSOP, as well as non-tax-favoured plans including:

  • Growth Shares

  • Part Paid Share Plans

  • LTIPs

  • Providing specialist tax input on due diligence projects and corporate transactions

  • Assisting with share valuations and liaising with the corporate finance valuations team

  • Supporting clients with the ongoing operation and compliance of share schemes

  • Managing the registration and de-registration of share plans with HMRC

  • Preparing annual share scheme returns, obtaining client approval, and submitting them to HMRC

  • Attending and, where appropriate, leading client meetings

  • Identifying opportunities to deliver additional advisory services to existing clients

  • Helping generate new leads and contributing to winning new work

  • Responding to technical tax queries from colleagues across the firm, including Partners and Directors

  • Corresponding directly with clients and HMRC

  • Assisting with billing and fee management processes

  • Planning, controlling, and reviewing work completed by junior team members to ensure delivery within deadlines and budgets

  • Supporting staff appraisals for allocated team members

  • Delegating and reviewing tasks effectively while ensuring junior staff receive the right level of training and development

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness, client focus, and a collaborative approach.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A professional qualification such as CTA, ACA, or ACCA, or equivalent relevant experience

  • Proven experience in the implementation of share schemes, including both tax-favoured and non-tax-favoured plans

  • Strong knowledge of Employment Related Securities legislation and its impact on transactions

  • Experience preparing and submitting annual share scheme returns

  • Familiarity with HMRC registration and de-registration processes for share schemes

  • A strong background in client service, including fee proposals and billing

  • The ability to coach, support, and develop junior team members

  • Confidence in building relationships and contributing to business development opportunities
