Assistant Manager – Employment Tax

Forvis Mazars LLP is seeking a motivated and technically capable Assistant Manager to join its expanding Employment Tax team across the North. This opportunity is available in Leeds or Manchester and is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex issues, building client relationships, and progressing within a clear and supportive career pathway.
About the Opportunity
In this role, you will play a key part in delivering a broad range of UK employment tax advisory and compliance services. You will work directly with clients, support the development of junior team members, and strengthen your expertise across a wide range of specialist employment tax matters.
You will also collaborate closely with senior colleagues and Partners while becoming part of a high-performing national Employment Tax team and the wider Global Employer Solutions community.
Key Responsibilities
As Assistant Manager, you will contribute to the successful delivery of client work across a varied portfolio of employment tax matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting and delivering advisory projects across areas such as:
PAYE/NIC
Benefits and expenses
Termination payments
Reward strategy and cost reduction
Employment status, including IR35 and umbrella arrangements
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
National Minimum Wage (NMW)
Payroll governance
Preparing and reviewing:
Advisory notes
Technical reports
Calculations
HMRC correspondence
Assisting with compliance processes, including:
PSA support
P11D reviews
Employer compliance checks
Year-end processes
Participating in client meetings and calls, helping to shape discussions and follow through on agreed actions
Reviewing work completed by junior team members, while offering guidance, coaching, and constructive feedback
Supporting business development activity through:
Research
Proposal drafting
Marketing material preparation
Contributing to the wider team by supporting:
Technical training
Knowledge sharing
Process improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an individual who combines technical strength with a proactive mindset and a genuine interest in developing their career within employment tax.
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
3+ years of UK employment tax experience, gained either in practice or in-house
A strong understanding of:
PAYE/NIC
Expenses and benefits
IR35 and worker status
HMRC processes and interactions
ATT and/or CTA qualification, or strong relevant employment tax experience
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce work that is:
Clear
Accurate
Professional
Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
A clear interest in building deeper technical expertise and taking on greater client-facing responsibility
