About the Role

Tax Analyst

1st Central

Join a market-leading insurance business powered by smart data, technology, and innovation.

At 1st Central, growth has come from doing things the right way — combining great-value insurance with excellent service for more than 1.4 million customers. That same commitment extends to our people too, which is why we were named Insurance Employer of the Year at the British Insurance Awards 2024.

If you’re someone who enjoys working with data, exploring the detail, and making sure processes are accurate, controlled, and compliant, this could be an exciting next step. Whether your experience comes from tax, finance reporting, audit, controls, or operations, we’d love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Tax Analyst to join our Finance team and support the Group’s end-to-end tax compliance and reporting activity.

In this role, you’ll work alongside internal finance teams and external advisers, helping to ensure tax processes run smoothly, accurately, and efficiently across the business. You’ll also contribute to strengthening data quality, improving controls, and supporting wider tax-related projects.

This is a varied opportunity with exposure to multiple areas of tax and reporting. It’s ideal for someone with a strong analytical mindset, confidence handling and reconciling data, and a structured, detail-focused approach to work.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Tax Analyst, your work will span a broad range of tax and finance activities, including compliance, reporting, and analysis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting tax compliance across areas such as VAT, IPT, and Corporation Tax

  • Assisting with month-end and year-end processes

  • Preparing and analysing data to support advisory and tax-related projects

  • Reconciling figures and investigating anomalies to ensure accuracy and consistency

  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external advisers

  • Maintaining strong documentation and working papers

  • Helping improve tax processes, controls, and data quality across the Group

Who We’re Looking For

We’re open to candidates with direct tax experience, but we also welcome applications from people with transferable skills from related environments.

You might currently work in:

  • Tax

  • Finance reporting

  • Audit

  • Risk or controls

  • Data-focused finance or operational roles

If you bring strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and experience working in a regulated or process-driven environment, we’ll support you in building the tax knowledge needed to thrive in the role.

Core Skills We Value

Data analysis & reconciliation

  • Confidence working with large or complex datasets

  • Ability to reconcile figures accurately

  • Skilled at spotting discrepancies, trends, and anomalies

Compliance & reporting mindset

  • Experience contributing to accurate reporting or submissions in a regulated environment

  • Ability to follow defined processes and maintain clear, auditable records

  • Comfortable working in areas such as tax, finance reporting, audit, or controls

Attention to detail & control focus

  • A highly methodical and accurate approach

  • Strong commitment to documentation, governance, and process control

  • A mindset focused on doing things thoroughly and correctly

Why This Role Stands Out

This is more than a technical reporting role — it’s a chance to play a meaningful part in how tax operations are managed and improved across the Group.

You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of topics, work with knowledgeable teams, and have the opportunity to make a visible impact through better processes, stronger controls, and more reliable data.

Location & Ways of Working

This role is based in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

We’re big supporters of hybrid working, so you can expect to work mainly from home, with approximately one day per week in the office. If you’d prefer to spend more time in the office, that works for us too.
