About the Opportunity
We are looking for a seasoned Tax Manager with a broad background that may include work with family-owned businesses, high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and estates.
In this position, you will serve as a leader within our tax practice, overseeing complex engagements from planning through completion, acting as a trusted advisor to clients, and supporting the development of tax staff at all levels. You will collaborate closely with firm partners and play an important role in maintaining the high standards of service our clients expect.

Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Relationship Management
Lead client engagements from initial planning through final delivery
Serve as the primary point of contact for tax clients
Build and maintain strong relationships through proactive communication and timely follow-up
Understand each client’s goals and deliver practical, strategic tax and business guidance
Communicate complex tax issues in a clear, concise, and client-friendly manner
Technical Tax Oversight
Review individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns for accuracy and completeness
Provide tax guidance to family-owned businesses and high-net-worth individuals
Interpret and apply applicable tax laws, regulations, and professional standards
Stay informed on new and evolving tax developments and convert technical guidance into actionable advice
Use strong technical judgment to achieve the best possible client outcomes while maintaining full compliance
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax seniors, staff, and interns
Provide coaching on:
Workpaper documentation
Tax return preparation
Workflow organization and efficiency
Deliver feedback that is timely, constructive, and actionable
Delegate responsibilities effectively while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability
Set clear expectations and model professional leadership behaviors
Engagement Management
Oversee multiple engagements simultaneously with minimal supervision
Coordinate timelines, staffing, and resources to ensure high-quality and timely delivery
Monitor budgets, billable hours, and engagement progress
Provide partners with regular updates regarding status, billing, and key issues
Follow firm procedures and systems to promote consistency, quality, and efficiency
Firm Growth & Business Development
Represent HFCO as a firm ambassador through networking, relationship building, and community involvement
Contribute to niche development, strategic initiatives, and process improvement efforts
Support the firm’s long-term vision and uphold its service standards and culture
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Credential: Active CPA license required
Experience:
6+ years of public accounting experience
2+ years in a management or supervisory role
Leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members
Technology: Comfortable using tax software and Microsoft Office
Preferred: Openness to AI and emerging tools; CCH Axcess experience is a plus
Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical matters into practical guidance
