Working Hours: Full-time or Part-time
Working Pattern: Hybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week (or 40% of your time) based at one of our office locations

About the Opportunity
As Tax Operations Control Senior Manager, you will take a leading role in enhancing the Operational Tax control framework within IP&I. You’ll combine deep technical control expertise with strong business partnering skills to oversee significant control and risk components, while supporting the effective operation of the First Line of Defence.
Working as part of the Control Office, you will analyse and assess the control landscape, provide expert recommendations, and help the business manage risk in line with Group risk appetite. You may also lead a team of control professionals focused on control design, optimisation, testing, monitoring, and process improvement.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will be responsible for driving improvements, providing oversight, and influencing control strategy across Operational Tax.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, develop, and strengthen the Operational Tax control environment
- Provide authoritative analysis and recommendations with both immediate and longer-term business impact
- Act as a subject matter expert on Tax controls, advising the business on effective risk mitigation
- Challenge control effectiveness and support alignment with Group risk appetite
- Coordinate control design and optimisation, including process mapping, testing, and monitoring
- Develop and interpret policies and procedures to ensure consistent and compliant application across Operational Tax
Additional Responsibilities
- Build trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders and senior customers
- Support assurance activity, ensuring strong audit trails and meaningful reporting
- Identify opportunities for improvement and embed both preventative and detective controls
- Analyse data from multiple sources to identify trends, root causes, and business impacts
- Produce clear, high-quality reporting and data summaries for governance forums and senior leadership
- Apply data literacy and visualisation techniques to support decision-making and control insight
- Lead or contribute to transformation initiatives, ensuring controls are designed, embedded, and monitored throughout change delivery
- Help shape new business practices that support wider Group transformation objectives
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a strategic and technically strong professional with experience in operational tax controls, governance, and regulatory environments.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and maintaining operational tax control frameworks
- Strong understanding of Pensions and Investment businesses
- Approximately 3 years of experience in UK Tax, HMRC, and regulatory matters
- Ability to deliver formal governance reporting to local and Divisional Senior Management
- Experience working collaboratively with Operations, Group Tax, and Risk functions
- Exposure to major transformation programmes, including business, legislative, and regulatory change
