The Opportunity
We are looking for an Employment and Expat Tax Manager to join the Group Tax team, reporting directly to the Director of Tax.
This position is ideal for a tax professional with deep expertise in global mobility tax and a strong grounding in UK employment tax. You will support a globally mobile workforce, helping to ensure compliance across jurisdictions while providing practical guidance on complex cross-border tax matters.
You’ll work closely with teams across HR, Global Mobility, Payroll and Finance, making this a highly collaborative role with wide business exposure. If you enjoy solving challenging tax issues in a fast-moving international environment, this could be an excellent next step.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Global Mobility & Expat Tax Compliance
In this area, you will help shape and maintain strong processes that support international tax compliance for mobile employees.
Partner with the Global Mobility team to build and maintain effective controls for managing tax and social security obligations across multiple jurisdictions
Oversee expat payroll and external tax vendors, ensuring compliance, operational efficiency and cost control
Support home and host country compliance for internationally mobile employees, including:
Long-term incentive plans (LTIPs)
Bonuses
Termination payments
Pension contributions
Ensure pension arrangements are structured effectively to maximise tax efficiency in host locations
Advise on business traveller tax risks and help implement tracking processes where required
Support tax protection policies for mobile employees
Collaborate with Finance on the accounting treatment of complex expat payroll matters
Respond to evolving global employment tax challenges and other ad hoc mobility issues
UK Employment Tax
You will also take ownership of key UK employment tax responsibilities, ensuring robust compliance and proactive risk management.
Manage UK employment tax reporting obligations, including:

Appendices 4, 7B and 8
Section 690
P11Ds
Oversee employment tax matters linked to employee benefits, such as:
Pensions
Salary sacrifice arrangements
Incentive schemes
Act as the main point of contact for HMRC on employment tax issues
Support Senior Accounting Officer certification through risk identification and assurance activity
Lead IR35 assessments and compliance
Advise on the tax implications of remote and flexible working arrangements
Work with Finance to ensure the accurate accounting and reporting of employment tax-related costs
Provide employment tax input into M&A due diligence
Identify tax efficiency opportunities and deliver training to internal stakeholders
Support overseas teams on employment tax matters when needed
Line manage and develop a Tax Analyst
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience & Skills
We’re seeking someone who combines technical expertise with sound judgment, strong communication skills and a practical mindset.
3–5 years’ experience in expat/global mobility tax compliance
Experience with tax equalisation and hypothetical tax calculations
Strong understanding of UK employment tax compliance requirements
Experience managing cross-border tax obligations from both home and host country perspectives
Good knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger processes
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Ability to work through ambiguity, balance competing priorities and deliver under pressure
A proactive, solutions-oriented and practical approach
Desirable
Understanding of international employment tax frameworks
A professional tax qualification such as CTA, ATT or equivalent

Working Pattern
The FT currently operates a hybrid working model, with employees expected to work onsite 50% of the time, subject to role requirements and regular review.
Flexible working requests will be considered, although not every pattern will be suitable for every role. The FT believes this balanced approach supports both flexibility and culture by strengthening collaboration, communication, team connection and peer learning.
