About the Role

Employment Tax Manager / Specialist – UK Compliance & Governance

GSK | New Oxford Street, London, UK

Join GSK and play a key role in strengthening UK employment tax compliance and governance within a global biopharma organisation. This opportunity sits within a global employment taxes team, with a primary focus on UK domestic employment tax obligations, while also offering exposure to advisory work, cross-border topics, and wider tax transformation initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an employment tax professional looking to expand both their technical expertise and operational experience in a large, complex FTSE-listed environment. The role is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys improving controls, driving process efficiency, and partnering with stakeholders across multiple business functions.

About the Role

As part of GSK’s global employment taxes team, you will take ownership of key UK compliance and governance activities, helping the organisation manage employment tax risk effectively and meet all relevant statutory requirements.

The position has a strong compliance and governance focus, but also offers scope to contribute to advisory work, employment tax projects, and initiatives that support consistency and best practice across the wider global group.

Aligned with GSK’s commitment to digital fluency, the role also requires a continuous focus on identifying opportunities to streamline and improve the processes under your remit.

  • Partner with payroll teams to ensure employment tax rules are accurately reflected in payroll operations

  • Maintain compliance with internal control requirements, governance standards, and audit expectations

  • Help ensure a consistent and well-controlled approach to UK employment tax management

2. Stakeholder Management

You will act as a trusted contact for employment tax matters, building strong working relationships across the business and supporting stakeholders with practical, clear guidance.

  • Serve as a key contact for internal teams, including:

  • Manage responses to:

  • Routine HMRC correspondence

  • Support the Head of Employment Taxes on more complex, sensitive, or escalated issues when required

You will provide practical UK employment tax support in relation to employee benefits, expenses, and remuneration arrangements.

  • Advise on the employment tax treatment of benefits and expenses

  • Interpret policy and support the practical application of UK tax rules

  • Work with Reward and HR teams on the tax implications of remuneration and employee benefit structures

  • Assist with UK employment tax matters linked to share-based incentive arrangements

4. Global Collaboration & Mobility Support

Although the role is UK-focused, you will also contribute to broader global employment tax matters and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Collaborate with the Global Mobility team on UK employment tax considerations for internationally mobile employees

  • Provide input on:

  • Payroll implications

  • Shadow payroll considerations

  • UK tax treatment for cross-border employee populations

  • Share UK technical expertise in wider global projects, improvement initiatives, and employment tax programmes

  • Support alignment, consistency, and best practice across the global employment taxes team

5. Risk Management & Continuous Improvement

You will help GSK stay ahead of legislative change while strengthening controls and identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Keep up to date with:

  • UK employment tax legislation

  • HMRC guidance and practice developments

  • Proactively identify:

  • Risks

  • Process gaps
