The Opportunity
We are looking for a Personal Tax Assistant Manager to join our Private Client Tax team in Peterborough. This is an excellent opportunity for either:
A strong Personal Tax professional ready to step up into an Assistant Manager role, or
An existing Assistant Manager seeking a new challenge in a progressive and people-focused firm.
In this role, you will work with a broad and interesting portfolio that includes high-net-worth individuals, wealthy families, trusts, estates, and offshore structures. You will also gain exposure to a wide variety of compliance, advisory, and dispute resolution work.
This position offers flexibility to shape the role around your strengths and interests, with opportunities to become involved in specialist areas such as:
Succession planning
Owner-managed business projects
Trusts and structures
Inheritance tax planning
International and cross-border tax matters
What You’ll Be Doing
As part of the Peterborough team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality tax services and building meaningful client relationships. Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing, reviewing, and submitting annual tax returns for delegated clients
Managing a diverse personal tax portfolio
Advising clients on a wide range of private client and personal tax matters
Taking ownership of Trusts and Estates work
Handling IHT reporting, including IHT100 and IHT400 forms
Ensuring all returns are compliant with current tax legislation and regulations
Liaising directly with HMRC and clients on personal tax matters
Managing HMRC interventions, including s9A enquiries, investigations, and voluntary disclosures
Supporting senior team members and partners on more complex tax projects
Identifying advisory opportunities and contributing to the growth of the tax offering
Supporting business development and marketing activity
Mentoring and developing junior team members
Maintaining and enhancing your technical knowledge through continuous professional development
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone who is technically capable, commercially aware, and motivated to continue developing both professionally and personally.
You will ideally have:
CTA, ACA, or ACCA qualification (or equivalent)
A strong background in Personal Tax
The ambition to progress and develop your career further
A genuine curiosity for tax and a commitment to continuous learning
Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, and tax software
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to supervise and support junior team members
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
A client-focused mindset with good commercial awareness
Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
The ability to work effectively under pressure
A positive and professional approach when working with clients and colleagues
